Console Games (Nintendo, Sony etc.) and Arcade Games/Pokemon Leaf Green (Happiness)
Expert: Chamale - 5/12/2010
QuestionQUESTION: Hello again Chamale,
Remember me? Thank you again for your help earlier, I really appreciate it! In my Leaf Green game, my pokedex has a count of only 5 because the only pokemon that I have are Venusaur and Fearow (working on getting that water type soon, I didn't decide which one to pick as of yet). There are no pokemon in Bill's PC. They have "never" been placed in Bill's PC. I always give them cures (antidotes, paralyze heals, etc... inside and out of battle) and HP replenishing stuff (water, etc... inside and out of battle) when they have a status effect/take damage. They have "never" fainted in battle. They have been given vitamins (carbos, etc...). They are "always" with me. Here is an update of my Pokemon.
Trainer Name: Kaiba(as in "Seto Kaiba")
Trainer Sex: Male
Badges: 4
Pokemon: Venusaur(male)
Name: Armadillus
Current Level:67
Nature: Hasty
Item Held: Miracle Seed
Where I met them: Pallet Town at Level 5
Moveset: Secret Power, Razor Leaf, Cut(unfortunately I'm stuck with it!), and Bullet Seed
Pokemon Stats:
Hit Points: 209
Attack: 141
Defense: 127
Special Attack: 164
Special Defense: 161
Speed: 190
Pokemon: Fearow(Female)
Name: Air Razer
Current Level: 42
Nature: Naughty
Item Held: None yet
Where I met them: Route 22 at level 3
Moveset: Drill Peck, Secret Power, Fly and Aerial Ace(will become "Steel Wing" when I get it or should I keep this instead?)
Pokemon Stats:
Hit Points: 121
Attack: 115
Defense: 65
Special Attack: 71
Special Defense: 56
Speed: 107
*************** MY QUESTIONS *****************
(1)What do you think of my pokemon?
(2)What effect does "Nature" have on my pokemon?
(3)I will give my water pokemon "Mystic Water." What Item do you recommend for Fearow to hold?
(4)How do I make pokemon happy?
(5)How do I keep them happy?
(6)How do I know they are happy? Is there a place that I can check this or a sign/response from them?
(7)I already have the move "Return," but the damage indicator says "---." If "Drill Peck" has an attack power of 80, "Return must have an attack power of 100 something?
(8)Any other comments that you would like to make other that the questions that are listed above?
Thank you very much for you assistance regarding this matter. I sincerely apologize if these questions are long and annoying, the last thing that I want is to be rude/mean to anybody. Please let me know if you want me to stop asking you questions.
Sincerely yours,
LG
ANSWER: Hello again, LG.
Here are my answers:
1. Venusaur seems good, but it needs to lose Cut. Go to Fuchsia City - there's a man in a house next to the Pokémon Centre who can make it forget the move.
Fearow should learn Steel Wing instead of Aerial Ace, in case you need help dealing with Rock-types.
2. Nature raises one stat and reduces another. A hasty nature increases Speed but lowers Defense, while a naughty nature raises Attack while lowering Special Defense. Both of these natures are good for your Pokémon. There's a complete list of natures at
http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Nature
3. If you teach Fearow Return, give it the Silk Scarf. This item can be found in the Lost Cave by taking the following doors: Right, up, down, down, right, left, down, right, up. Before you reach the Lost Cave, give Fearow Leftovers, which can be found hidden at the spots where Snorlax slept before you fought it.
4, Every time you use a potion or level up a Pokémon, it becomes happier.
5. Every time a Pokémon faints or you use herbal medicine on it, it becomes less happy.
6. The way you treat them, your team is probably at maximum happiness. Take your Pokémon to your Rival's house in Pallet Town. Talk to Daisy. If she says the Pokémon "Looks really happy", it has maximum happiness. If she says that the Pokémon "Really trusts you", it's almost as happy as possible.
7. The power of Return is based on the Pokémon's happiness. At maximum happiness, it has a power of 102. As long as Fearow really trusts you, the base power is at least 80 - better than Drill Peck.
8. Unless you're facing a Rock or Ghost Pokémon, or something weak to Flying, Return is easily the best move for Fearow. In addition to its high power, Fearow receives a 1.5X boost to that attack because it shares a type with it.
I'm wondering, how did you get Venusaur and Fearow to such high levels with only 4 badges? You should be able to easily defeat the remaining Gyms now.
I'm not bothered by your questions, feel free to ask more.

QUESTION: ***************** Part Two ******************
Thank you very much for your help Chamale, I really appreciate it! I hope my leveling up locations will help you and other players of this awesome game!
"Soft Reset" is select, start, A, and B at the same time for those of you that don't already know this.
Here is a new update of my pokemon as of 05/11/10 8:15pm... By the way, my total playing time is only 19 hours and 25 minutes and I have $145,238.00 cash.
"Armadillus" stats(level 68, he gained a level)
Hit Points: 212
Attack: 143
Defense: 129
Special Attack: 166
Special Defense: 163
Speed: 192
"Air Razer" stats(level 50, she gained 8 levels)
Hit Points: 143
Attack: 137
Defense: 76
Special Attack: 85
Special Defense: 66
Speed: 166
The reason that I only have 4 badges is that I am really taking my sweet time in the game this time around. I know that I can beat those gyms already, I really like my pokemon a lot :) and am treating them with a lot of tender loving care! Here is how I got them to such high levels with only 4 badges under my belt...
LOCATION #1
(1)Use the "VS Seeker" that you get from the pokemon center in Vermilion City.
(2)Fly to "Vermilion City" if you're not there yet.
(3)Go to "Route 11" (the grassy fields that is located right from Diglett's Cave) and stop a little pass the tree on the top screen. Do you see that patch of grass below, not the one directly in front of you? Follow THIS PATCH OF GRASS until you reach the end of it, you will see a guy constantly moving left and right. On this same grass patch, enter the upper right corner of this grass patch (you will know that you are in the correct position because you will see the feet of the two trainers on the top of the screen). Do not move from this position!
(4)Save the game when that dude walking back and forth is under you!
(5)Use the "VS Seeker" (make sure its charged up!) If you're lucky, all 5 of them will fight you again! This should give you about 4000 experience points and somewhere around $3,000.00 cash each run if all 5 of them are up for the rematch. Repeat this process as necessary! Use the "soft reset" function if nobody or most of them don't want to fight and keep on trying.
LOCATION #2
(1)Use the "VS Seeker" that you get from the pokemon center in Vermilion City.
(2)Fly to "Lavender Town" if you're not there yet.
(3)Go to "Route 8"(left path)and once you clear the trees on the right side, keep pressing up against the mountains until you can't move anymore. Go all the way left and you will hit the fence and stop, do not move from this spot! You should see the 4 trainers in a vertical formation on your right side and an old dude on the left side.
(4)Save the game.
(5)Use the "VS Seeker" (make sure its charged up!) If you're lucky, all 5 of them will fight you again. You will get A LOT of experience and money! Repeat as necessary! Use the "soft reset" function if nobody or most of them don't want to fight and keep on trying.
Tada! You get the best of both worlds(experience and money) and watch the levels of your pokemon sky rocket! Once again, thank you very much for your help Chamale, please keep up the great work! I am in college and have to do my homework for class tomorrow, take care! Be cool, stay in school! :)
*************** MY QUESTIONS ***************
(1)What do you think of my 2 "leveling up" spots?
(2)Any other comments you would like to make?

AnswerHello LG.
1. I agree, you've found an efficient method for levelling up. Of course, the fastest way to level up is to repeatedly challenge the Elite Four after beating all 8 gyms, but your method is useful early in the game.
2. By keeping this discussion public, this advice can be shown to everyone. That's the current setting, by the way.
Sincerely, Chamale.
