AboutAndrew Crome Expertise I have played games since the early nineties. I can answer questions on the SNES, the Sega Saturn, N64, Dreamcast, Gamecube, Xbox, 360, and DS. I can tell you what games are worth getting, and which aren`t, as well as the history of these systems. While I`m no expert on other systems I`m more than happy to find out things you would like to know about them.
Question Hi, i have been looking for 'uk/pal format' DS games for my son on Ebay and have noticed that a large % of the games have an 'E' symbol on the bottom left corner of the case.(none of the games my son own at present have that symbol) The sellers describe them as PAL/UK format but im not so sure. Will these games play properly on a uk console. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks
Answer Hi Jane,
All DS (and GBA) games are region free, and will work on any DS console. I've imported a couple of Japanese games myself, and apart from the language barrier, they run perfectly. If they have an "E" on the case they should be from the States. The "E" is representative of the US ratings system and means "E - Suitable for Everyone". It's their equivalent of the PEGI ratings on our software. Again, I've used US games with no problem.
A word of warning, however - a large number of EBay DS games, particularly those listed from the far east, are pirated copies. Be very careful when buying from sellers in Hong Kong and China, as they are the worst offenders. Check their feedback thoroughly and use common sense as always with Ebay!
If you want to import reduced price DS games, I recommed Play Asia (http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-14-71-8s-49-en.html - links direct to their DS page). They list US and Japanese games, and I've always found them very good. There are several other sites that also do this - videogamesplus.ca is a Canadian one that comes to mind off the top of my head, I've heard good things but never used them myself.
