Console Games (Nintendo, Sony etc.) and Arcade Games/follow up on PSP

Question
The unit can be turned on as usual.  We load a game.  But when we toggle over to the "game" icon, there are two subfolders, one that reads "Game sharing", and another that is labeled "Saved Data Utility.  My son tells me that there used to be several folders here with his usual games that he played.  I can hear the game disk making some noise but the game is not loading.
Thanks,
Mike K

Answer
My first thought here is that the PSP is not reading the UMD. I do not know if this happening on all games, but from previous experience with optical devices this could be the case.

If its only happening with one game, try giving that game a clean.

Have a look at this web page for extra pointers on doing that, specifically for the umd cleaning advice

http://www.pspsolution.com/psp-faq-yes-5-PSP+General+Maintenance+and+Upkeep

If its happening with all games, could be that dust-wise could have got in the PSP internally... not sure about how to fix that (I have no PSP you see, only going by what research I've done) Sony may have more info through there warranty, booklets etc.

Could be moisture condensenation (Dont mind the spelling, I'm writing this at 1:30 in the morning atm)? If that was the case, you would have to leave the PSP off for a good several hours, untill the condensation clears out. It's more like the above case (about the disc not being read) if anything.

If I'm able to come up with anything extra, I'll let you know.

Good Luck

Expertise

I'm moving into answering questions relating to the Xbox 360 and related games. I can still answer questions on previous topics (Gamecube/GBA stuff) but please note I will not be able to help at a full capacity. As always, if I dont know the answer I'll do my best to search for it or point you to the best possible alternative for getting an answer (Updated 31/08/06 and about time too).

Experience

I've been a gamer for pretty much the last 14/15 years, so I feel I know my fair share about the subject. I spent the early years with Nintendo, the mid years with both Sony and Nintendo and I'm now just enjoying my Xbox 360, so I have experience with all three groups. I'm not much of a technical buff, but just like before if I cant answer a technical question personally I'll do my best to search for it or point you out to the next best source (Updated 31/08/06)
