I have one of the first ps2 and i was just wondering what the usb ports are used for also is there a driver update for the ps2 the only thing is i don't have a modem or a hard drive  for my system

First I'd like to apologize for taking so long to answer your question.  I've been extremely busy these past few weeks with studying for finals, taking finals, and today having to pack up and move out of housing due to me getting kicked out of the dorms.  I haven't been able to get online due to my busy schedule but I finally found a short break to answer your question.

To answer your first question the usb ports are really for anything.  They are mainly used though to plug a headset in so you can talk to people online.  You could also use the usb ports for things like charging your ipod, or charging anything else that plugs in via usb.

Also there are no driver updates for the ps2.
