Question
I was wondering what the biggest differences between the two are. a comparable side by side kind of thing. I am very interested in purchasing one but with both so alike I want the one that goes the extra mile, the real next gen console. Please help me with comparing the two and letting me know what one system can do that other cant and any other information that would be usful. Thanks for all the help

Answer
I apologize as I was just now notified that this question was waiting for me.

I'll preface this by saying that the Xbox 360 and PS3 are both solid next gen consoles. They also appeal to different types of gamers. The 360 is the choice of gamers who love online games as Xbox has a strong online community. The PS3 is the choice of gamers who love amazing graphics and RPGs. The Wii, also a next-gen console, appeals to yet another audience- the occasional gamer and those who like fun and highly interactive games. You can't sit still with a Wii around. =)

With that said, I'll go through some hardware benchmarks so you can see where both consoles stand. I'll be using the 60 GB PS3 for this comparison. You should also take a look at IGN's review, which is where I got some of the hardware stats: http://ps3.ign.com/articles/614/614783p1.html

HD space - The Xbox 360E has 120 GB, PS3 has 60.

Backwards compatibility - Xbox 360E has limited capability- even with the hard drive, not all Xbox games will work on it. The PS3 is compatible with PS1 & PS2 games.

Wireless internet - Xbox 360E doesn't have it, PS3 does.

HD-DVD - Can be purchased separately for Xbox 360E, PS3 has built-in BluRay (which is an HD-DVD format)

Processor - PS3 wins this with Xbox 360E having 3.2GHz G5 w/ 3 Cores (1.0 TFLOPS) and PS3 having 3.2GHz Cell w/ 7 SPEs
(2.0 TFLOPS)

Memory - PS3 wins this one too. Xbox 360E has 512MB GDDR3 @ 700MHz 10MB Embedded DRAM. PS3 has 256MB XDR @ 3.2GHz 256MB GDDR3 @ 700MHz.

Graphics - PS3 wins again. Xbox 360E has 500MHz ATi, PS3 has  550MHz NVIDIA

I could really keep going and do IR vs. Bluetooth, number of ports, peripheral compatibility, etc. which would put the PS3 over the Xbox 360E. However, AllExperts only gives me so much room and I'm running out of it.

In the end, the choice is up to you. All the benchmarks in the world won't promise you which system will give you the most enjoyment. My Wii, for instance, can't compete but at the moment I'm playing it the most. =) It all depends on your personal gaming preference.

Please let me know if I can help you with anything else.

Best wishes,
Helen =)

Ever since I played "Pong" in the early 80's, I've been a video game aficionado. I can answer hardware & games questions about PSP (PlayStation Portable), all PlayStation (1,2,& 3), Wii, Wii Fit, GameCube, Nintendo DS, Nintendo (NES), Super Nintendo, Gameboy/Gameboy Advance, and antiquated systems (ColecoVision, Atari, Sega, etc). I can answer hardware questions about all systems (including PS1 - PS3, Wii, NES, SNES, PSP, DS, GBA, GB, Xbox and Xbox 360). I can also answer PC game questions, especially CounterStrike: Source, Vampire: Bloodlines, Half-Life 1&2, Portal, Team Fortress 2, and all Sims & Sims 2 questions. I am ESPECIALLY knowledgeable in Square-Enix (formerly SquareSoft) games such as ALL the Final Fantasy games (I can even tell you really obscure things about these games). If I haven't played the game yet I will research it and help you find the answer, renting the game if necessary. I can even answer questions dealing with the consoles themselves (hardware questions). I cannot answer questions about Action Replay. I cannot answer questions about football, basketball, or wrestling sports games. I also have very limited knowledge about Xbox & Xbox 360 games unless they are cross-platform. If it is an independent game that has not been widely published and/or a game only released in some countries, I may not be able to help with it either (sadly!)

Experience

I currently am employed as a supervisor for a large, national video game retailer. I am also an expert here in games/roleplaying games, weddings, childbirth, and doulas. My husband is a computer programmer and one of the forefront coders for CounterStrike: Source scripts & mods. He has his own forums for coders/scripters at Mattie.Info. I have been an expert here since 2000 (under the name of Helen Chipman) and also volunteer on numerous other game-related websites and forums.
