Console Games (Nintendo, Sony etc.) and Arcade Games/xbox 360 keeps freezing up

Question
I have an xbox 360 that keeps freezing up. Sometimes I get the 3 red flashing light on the front. I was told this is not a heat-related issue and that there is a fix for it but only Microsoft knows how it is done. Do you have any information on this ?  Many thanks.

Answer
Hi Bill:

3 red lights flashing on the front, often means nothing good. What I first suggest to do is have a look at this page and see if this helps.

Seeing that you say that you only 'sometimes' get the 3 red lights, you may only need to look at changing your av cords/power cords. If you have a mate who also has a 360, see if you can try their cords to see if that works... if not I've been told that Microsoft may be able to send some out (that may be warrenty dependant though).

More often than not unfortunately, you'll have to send it into customer support to get the problem fixed. I should know, I've only recently had the same error and also had to send it in myself.

You may have some luck though negotiating with who you first brought the machine with instead of sending it off, so you may like to try that before sending it off. I only went straight to Microsoft as I was still under warrenty, your situation may be different.

Anyways, good luck with getting your 360 fixed, and I hope it dosent end up costing you anything.

Expertise

I'm moving into answering questions relating to the Xbox 360 and related games. I can still answer questions on previous topics (Gamecube/GBA stuff) but please note I will not be able to help at a full capacity. As always, if I dont know the answer I'll do my best to search for it or point you to the best possible alternative for getting an answer (Updated 31/08/06 and about time too).

Experience

I've been a gamer for pretty much the last 14/15 years, so I feel I know my fair share about the subject. I spent the early years with Nintendo, the mid years with both Sony and Nintendo and I'm now just enjoying my Xbox 360, so I have experience with all three groups. I'm not much of a technical buff, but just like before if I cant answer a technical question personally I'll do my best to search for it or point you out to the next best source (Updated 31/08/06)
