Construction & Contractors/faux stone over marble

Question
Can u put faux stone directly on marble, or do you have to take off the marble? this is on a fireplace front. The only problem w/ taking it off, we think it is placed directly on the steel firebox.

Answer
This should work without a problem, assuming that the marble is properly adhered to whatever is beneath it. Use a high quality thinset mortar to adhere the faux stone, the type that comes dry in a bag, not the pre-mixed stuff, and you should have good results.
If the adhesive that attches the marble comes loose, this would obviously have an effect on your job and could result in loose stone.
