Construction & Contractors/Trenching charges

Question
Our electrical company is a small one and we have a ditch witch.  We are starting on a large project in Fort McMurray doing trenching for a camp.  It involves about 400 yards of trenching through frost/hard ground.  We are unsure of what we should be charging for this project.  By the meter or hour?

Answer
In this case I would try to negotiate an hourly rate because you cannot predict the state of frost in the ground.  If the ground is well characterized and predictable you could charge by the linear meter but you might want to set up your machine someplace else before hand and run it for a couple of meters to see what the linear productivity is.
