Question MY HOME RECENTLY EXPERIENCED A SLAB LEAK WHERE 150,000 GALLOONS OF WATER WENT THRU MY METER. I AM NOW HAVING EXTERIOR AND INTERIOR CRACKING AND BREAKING OF BRICKS TO MY HOME MY DIRT IS CALICHE AND I AM WONDERING IS THIS KIND OF DIRT GONNA HOLD UP WITH THE EXTREME WATER DAMAGE MY HOME HAD FOUNDATION WISE THANK U
Answer I really dont know that much about caliche, except that is a soft rock. Very hard to break. It absorbs larger amounts of water. It sounds like the amount of damage you have is movement that willl not correct itself. When the soils dry out....it is not likely that it will shrink the structure back. You may need an inspection by a soils engineer to determine the amount of movement and the probable cure.
