Question
what would be the correct slope of a sidewalk 8 feet wide. my guess is 2 inches

Answer
dear Shane

i belive that you are talking about the slope of a walk from side to side.
the usual rule of thumb  is 1/4'' per foot

the reason being is that rain water will definitely drain across the walk.  in states where ice is a problem,  melding ice should drain off the walkway.
