Question
are there any problems with using a monolithic slab in a cold area for a larger building such as 40' x 60'. the area is in the northern part of the U.S.

Answer
Jerry

A 2400 S F concrete slab poured in a single operation is not a big slab.To answer your question fully and more complete other information would be required.

Is the slab going to be placed inside or outside of the building
Is the slab being placed on the ground or on a form of some kind
The thickness of the slab      Will the slab require an embedded reinforcing (structural requirements )
The subgrade conditions should be noted if placed on grade (slabs on grade require a cushion of stone, sand or gravel )
Expansion joints and control joints may be required for a monolithic slab

If you are using experienced tradesman ( cement finishers ) and/or licensed contractors who work in the area they can assist you in making the right decision for your project.
