Question
Hi Dominic, maybe you can help me.

I need to have my 2 car wide driveway re surfaced with asphalt/macadam/ and need to know what I should look for from a contractor.  In our area (upstate NY) most of the contractors arise in the spring and summer and disappear in cold weather.  About price, old wives tale says, "find one working in your neighborhood, you'll get a good price cuz they won't have to move their equipment very far."  What ya think?

Contact your loacl building association and/or chamber of commerce for a list of established contractors.  Get two to three quotes and check references.  The costs from each contractor should be close, if not a low bid may mean a poor job or an incomplete job.
