Question
we are planning on adding on a master suite addition to our existing house, but i don't know where to begin.  do we go to an architect for plans.  we have ideas on what we want, but don't know what to do next.  i don't just want to 'hire a remodeling contractor.  Thank you for your help.

Answer
you have two choices.  Go to an architect (or designer) or go to a Design-Builder.  If you have a very custom design in mind I would go to an architect.  However, if you are looking to save money and get a good job you might start with looking for a builder that either offers design or can direct you to an architect that does that kind of work.  Whomwever you chose get references on similar work they have done and check the references.
