When do you prune and how.  How much do you prune.  Ours is planted in ground rather that potted.

How old is it and how long have you had it? Pruning any fruit tree is important if they have been in the ground for awhile and have developed some dead wood and cross branches; the main objective is opening it up so as to let sunlight into the inner branches, but the key is timing, you need to do it before blossoms set but after the last chance of a freeze or hard frost, so as not to have tender new growth begin , only to be damaged by said freeze/frost.
