Question
I recently asked you a question pertaining to a Peter Pan "litho"? Today I removed the backing from said litho and found 2 more pictures. One is by Rosa Bonheur titled "A Norman Sire" 1880 with C.Taber & co. Is this the same as Taber as in Taber Prang Art Co.? Thanks for any information.

Answer
Well, it is interesting to come across a find like that.

As you many know, Rosa Bonheur was a French Realist painter.  She was born in 1822, and died in 1899.  One of her works is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

I am certain that the C. Taber & Co. was somehow associated with the Prang-Tabor Company.  I have come across several prints by the C. Tabor Company, and they seem very much like the Prang-Taber prints.  I have a vague memory (and don't hold to this) that the Taber Company joined forces with the Prang people to make these art prints.

And, again, there is not much value associated with these prints.  My guess is that they made so many of them, and they are ubiquitous, hence the value assigned.

Again, one does not know the true value of a piece until there is a market.  The market determines the value.  So, I turned to E-Bay where I found the very same print (providing that your print is of a horse). The reserve price was $9.99.

I hope this give some clarification to the issue.  And, finally, the monetary value of a thing is not the only value that can be assigned.  If you enjoy the print, enjoy looking at it, then it has value to you.

Best wishes,
