Contemporary Art - Anna Bella Geiger prints

Expert: Nicholas Forrest - 5/14/2007

Question
I've acquired 5 prints by Anna Bella Geiger.  They appear to be originals, signed by the artist.  Two have the year 73 inscribed by the artist next to her signature.  They are poster-like in appearance, about 8"x10", nicely framed, with a copy of the original on the back of each.  All are colored in what appears to be chalk or colored pencil.  One has Hebrew characters on it and appears to have images of a Seder meal.  I've done some searching on the web.  Although Anna Bella Geiger is listed on the web, all of these prints appear to be signed Anne Belle Geiger.  I'd be grateful for any illumination from you.  Thanks.  Roger Bruns

Answer
Anna Bella Geiger is a highly regarded Brazilian artist whose work is included in many major collections around the world.  She is represented in the US by Tepper Takayama galleries in Boston and is particularly well known for her work in the print and video mediums.  If your prints are hand signed and numbered then there value would be more significant than if they are just posters.  Her work may appear to be signed as anna belle geiger but it would be signed as anna belle geiger.  The only price reference to her work i could find was a painting offered at auction in 1998 which had an estimated value of USD$3000-5000 although I would think her prices had increased a bit since then.
