Question
cynthia,
my name is katherine and i need some info if possible. i wanted to go to college for nursing and just found out i can't due to me having a f5 forgery and an f5 theft charge on my record. can you let me know what degrees i can take up since that is not an option to me anymore.

Answer
Hello Katherine,

Thanks for asking a question. The only reliable source of information is your State Board of Nursing, which may also be able to direct you about education with felony convictions. Every state follows specific rules about education and employment. You need to be completely candid with them as to the nature and disposition of the crimes. Each Board of Nursing makes a determination on a case by case basis and some are willing to issue a declarative statement in advance.

If you find that nursing is not an option, perhaps you may consider a health-related field, such as phlebotomy, lab tech, or radiation tech. Check with technical schools in your area as well as the local hospital to see what opportunities exist in your area.

Good luck with your education!
