Subject: Getting my Master's Degree... :)

Question
Hello Ma'am! :D :D

I just happened upon one of your responses on Post Graduate courses... and I myself am in a bit of a wavering situation... :D .

I have just completed my Degree in Biochemistry and Life Sciences here in Mumbai, India... :) and i am considering doing my Master's Degree in either, Zoology or Biochemistry... :D! hehee problem being.. +D that i love both subjects equally!! :D :) :) ....

Would you be so kind as to help me out and give me some guidance on career options in both fields.., once i finish off with my Post Graduate degree! :D

Lastly, +D If i may ask.. :D ... :) ..
Which line would you suggest would be more appropriate to choose and equally rewarding as a career, according to you... considering my subjects that i have graduated with at the moment :) ...; i mean, since i have graduated in Life Sciences and Biochemistry... :) would a Master's Degree in Zoology still be allright..!? :D Most importantly... :) Would it be a wise decision out of the two, in the long term run! :D .... or then, what would you suggest rather be the best..?? :) ..

Thankyou so much!! :D :D .. :) ...
Alyssa. :D .

Answer
Hello Alyssa,

Thanks for asking a question. Congratulations on completing your degree! I must confess before answering your question that I am NOT a career counselor. You should already have some idea of the types of career options available to you in each of these fields. If you look back through your textbooks, you will likely see how your course work applies. Your college may also have a career center with counselors to help you discover various career paths.

You ask if a Master's degree in Zoology would be "allright"...of course it would! Here is a list of careers for zoologists: http://www.science.siu.edu/zoology/zoology-careers.html

Here is a list of careers for biochemists: http://www.unixl.com/dir/molecular_sciences/biochemistry/biochemistry_jobs/

I suggest that you follow both Master's paths and collect as much information as possible about each field of study. Contact the schools with Master's programs, and they will likely ask for a copy of your transcript. Once the school has reviewed your transcript, you may find that you may need certain courses or take an examination before entering grad school.

You sound very excited about continuing your education. However, if you are unsure of your career path, I recommend working a few years before returning to school. Once you get out in the "work world" you may find that you clearly lean to one subject over the other. Don't be too hasty to choose a Master's program!

Regards,
Cindy Wolfe
