Continuing/Adult Education - Career-orintated college

Question
Hi Cynthia,
I have a question, my boy-friend wants to go to school and get his A.S. as a Physical Threapy Assitant. He doesn't want to deal with all the pre-req. courses and un-nessasary classes that he would have to take cause the school requires them. So I've heard of schools like Everest that offer career-orintated classes. But unfortunetly  Everest doesn't offer the Pysical Threapy Assitant Program that he is interested in. So my question is would you be able to give me a list of name of schools (like Everest) that offer the Physical Therapy Assitant Program?

Answer
Hi Melinda,

Thanks for asking a question. Everest and other schools like it are technical schools rather than academic, and so offer programs to enhance job skills. Schools with academic programs do not offer unnecessary classes - it is just that they have a different type of program.

Accreditation is also very important, as well as acceptance by trade organizations. The American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) has a list of schools offering a Physical Therapy Assistant program that is consistent with their guidelines. Review this state-by-state listing:

http://www.apta.org/AM/Template.cfm?section=PT_Programs&template=/aptaapps/accre...

The site also has a job bank. Please notice that Everest is not included in the list.

Good luck in your search!
