I live in the UK, and im 30 yrs old. I have decided i want to train to become a primary school teacher .. but i really dont know where to start. I have my English GCSE and so i think i will need to study my maths and science in order to get on to a teacher training course.
Also do you need experience with children in schools. I have worked in retail for years so going back to school really scares me but i know it will be more rewarding and i will be doing a job that i have always dreamed of doing.
So really i need some advice on where to start, as i said before i know i need to re study my maths and science gcse to get a grade c or above which will take about a year so i need to know what course do i need to apply for after that ??? help im confused.
Many Thanks Hayley x
Answer Hello Hayley,
Thanks for asking a question. I have read your inquiry several times but am missing the part I was expecting...why do you want to become a teacher? You express a fear of returning to school to achieve this goal. You will spend much time in school preparing to become a teacher, and then for the rest of your career you will be in a classroom!
If you are truly set on this goal, you should contact your local college and ask them to review your previous college course transcripts. The registrar or academic counselor will be able to direct you to the proper coursework. You may need to take preliminary (no credit) courses depending upon what you have taken in the past. Don't worry just yet about what to take later - you need an assessment of whay you should take now to get you brought up to speed.
