Question
I am 53 yrs.in college seeking and A.S. degree and would love to get my Bachelors. My dream job is to work at the veterans hospital, but I am so intimidated by the application until I think I get physically sick. I know the job and have the skills, it just when it comes to the narrative statements, I mean it's a simple question, but your reply has to be on bonded paper double spaced. My nerves get the better of my.What can I do to get myself in control of this?

Answer
Hi Pearl,
As a past administrator I would see very elaborate explainations for the questions asked. It seems strange but that was not what I was looking for in the applications. What I was looking for was exactly what you just said:  "I know the job and have the skills". That is exactly what I wanted to know. Don't let the bonded paper portion throw you. What they want to know, and what they want to see is if you can follow instructions, and nothing more. You are on the right track. Stop thinking to much into the question. Explain you are the right person for the job, you know what you are doing, and put it on the paper they want. That should be easy if you just tell them exactly what you told me. Put yourself in the readers position. They asked why you are the best person? "I know the job and have the skills" is exactly the right answer. You sound sharp. You will do well, just play the game.
Good Luck
Mike
