Continuing/Adult Education - paying for my online doctorate of education program

Expert: Cynthia Wolfe - 8/9/2009

Question
Dear Cynthia,
I recently received an acceptance letter from the William Howard Taft University The Boyer Graduate School of Education and a 50% tuition scholarship for the Doctor of Education Program.  I am a full-time teacher, mother of 2 young children, wife and I care for my parents.  I am seeking scholarship and grant opportunities to finance my education.  I am currently paying off preexisting graduate school loans.  I am a 35 year old Puerto Rican women.  Are there any reliable resources you can suggest?

Answer
Hi Beatrice,

Congratulations on your acceptance to WHTU, and receipt of a 50% tuition scholarship. This is truly an honor! You have received far more than most in similar programs. Unfortunately, there is little money available for terminal degrees, especially now since the economy is poor. As I do not know what type of loans you have, have you considered refinancing them to include the unfunded part of your education? If you are a member of a society or civic club, check to see if they have scholarships available. Also, check with the school to see if there are any grants available.

You lead a very busy life and must be able to take time for yourself to complete your assignments. I know you will - you sound like a person who knows exactly what she wants!

Take care,
Cindy Wolfe
