Continuing/Adult Education - Grants and scholarships for Doctoral Degree

Expert: Cynthia Wolfe - 9/27/2009

Question
I am currently a doctoral student in the are of Educational Leadership (EdD program). I have completed the first year, and really need to find financial support in order to complete the two additional years. I am a nationally certified School Psychologist and recently jumped into a leadership role as our school district's Special Education Instructional Specialist. I also work as an adjunct faculty member at a University, teaching graduate classes in the area of special education. I am 40 years old, Jewish, mother of two, and step-mother of two. My degree will allow me to receive certification to become a Superintendent to a school district.

Answer
Hi Rachael,

Congrats on all of your successes! I suggest starting with your university to see if they have some scholarships or grants available. Don't just check the website; actually give them a call as there may be some monies that are not "advertised." Next, see if any of the professional organizations you belong to have any scholarships. Think about community organizations such as Toastmasters or Rotary Club. There are few opportunities available for terminal degrees: I know because I am in the same situation. I eventually got a private education loan.

Kind regards,
Cindy Wolfe
