Continuing/Adult Education - college degrees

Question
Hi! I am 36 yrs old and just completed my AA degree at the community college.  I wanted to get a BA degree, but we cannot afford to go into financial debt. I was wondering which of the Assoc. of applied science degrees would find me a job. I just sit and look at them and have no clue what I'd be interested in. I've been out of the work force since 1993 so this is a little scary too.
Thanks

Answer
Hello Donna,

Thanks for asking a question. I think that you need to take a careful look at what your skills are rather than what will get you a job. An AAS degree is great if you have a direction in mind, such as agriculture or accounting. A degree does not get you a job! If you have no idea what you want to do, I think you should look into the health sciences, like nursing or radiology tech. Healthcare jobs are the fastest growing sector in this economy - and you know there will always be a need for healthcare.

I don't think getting another associate's degree is the path to follow unless you have a specific career you are interested in. Getting a bachelor's degree is the next logical step. You need to take one step back from education and set goals and a plan to reach them.

Kind regards,
Cindy Wolfe
