Question
Hi.My husband has a herpes for 4 yrs and we are newly  married . He takes valtrex for 4 yrs and rarely have an outbreaks. Can we have sex without using a condom because a man wants to penetrates on his woman during sex intercourse? Is it only when he has a breakout that he has 2 use a condom?

Answer
Hi Jen,
Thanks for your question. I'm not a medical doctor so please consult your personal physician. I read an article from the CDC and it said that condoms could lessen the chance that you would get herpes. But it is not 100% sure that you would not get herpes. A person can carry herpes even if they are not broke out. So to sum it up-your husband can use a condom but it still would not be sure that you would not get herpes. Sorry to tell you this news. It's up to you whether you want to take the risk of getting it or not. Even if he used a condom every time you have sex, it's possible that you can get it in the long run.
