Question
Hello,

I'm worried about a one time encounter I had with a girl whom I've only known for a short time.  We had sex and the condom broke, then we had sex again sans condom.  The next day I freaked out, which is something I do after unprotected sex.  This was 15 days ago.  My penis was sore for about a week after the encounter, we had pretty rough sex.  There was also a significant amount of peeling, which I have not noticed before (I had a girlfriend for 15 months and we had unprotected sex all the time, and rough, and this never happened).  There has also been some irritation that comes and goes at one spot underneath the glans.  There are no marks 15 days later.  About 6 days ago the glands in my neck swelled up and I have been having very mild cold / flu (I don't know if I have had a fever) like symptoms that have not really gone away.  I hear this can be associated with Herpes. I spoke to the girl, she assured me she did not have an STD So here go my questions.
1. Assuming the girl had herpes and did not know it (no outbreaks) is there a good chance I could have contracted it from a one time encounter?
2. If my flu like symptoms are related to Herpes would I also be experiencing an outbreak?  I am quite positive there are no ulcers or marks on my penis, but I hear sometimes they can be too small to see, is this true?
3. How long do I have to wait to get an accurate test blood test result after the encounter?
4. Before this encounter I knew I was clean, but even then occasionally I would have stinging urination and the same sort of strange pain in one spot on my penis.  Also, in the morning i sometimes have just a dab of clear discharge.  I was on an extended course of doxicyclin at one point (another scare) and these problems seemed to come with the anti-biotics.  I also drink a lot of beer and eat pretty unhealthy.  Is it possible that I might have a yeast infection?  If so what can I do to rule that out / treat it?
5. The woman I love (my x) is coming to visit me.  I don't know if we will have sex or not, if we do, if I have no marks or signs of anything on my penis is it safe (relativly) to have unprotected sex with her?  Safe only meaning that she has no chance of getting anything from me?

I have a bit of history about freaking out, I probably should not have sex with anyone I realize.  Anyway, thanks for being available.

Charles

Answer
Hello Charles,

Your question is quite complicated but I will do my best to answer even though I'm not a medical doctor. I think you should see your physician about this as soon as possible.

1. Yes, in my opinion you can contract herpes from a one time encounter. The symptoms of herpes do not always appear outwardly.
2. In my opinion, a man get have herpes and not have outward symptoms.
3. not sure (sorry)
4. not sure (contact your doctor)
5. I'm not sure that it would be a good idea to have sexual relations with the woman who is coming to visit. I can't guarantee that you are safe. Once again, I urge you to consult your physician.
How old are you? I would advise 2nd virginity and save yourself for the woman you marry. Here is a link about this

Here is a link about herpes:http://www.pamf.org/patients/herpes.html

Hope this is helpful
