Contraception and VD/Pregnancy after birth control pill

Question
I have been on the birth control pill for 9 years. My husband and I are thinking about starting a family soon. I have heard that after being on birth control pill for so long, that it may take me a year or longer to get pregnant, but then I've also heard that I could easily get pregnant RIGHT after stopping the pill. What is the correct answer?

Answer
Hello Kristy,
Thanks for your question and hope I can help. I'm not a medical doctor and I always tell people to check with their personal physician.
In my research, I have found that both of those answers you are getting are correct. There is no way of predicting when or if you will get pregnant. I personally was on the birth control pill for almost 10 years and got pregnant pretty soon after going off the pill. I was young at the time. It could depend on your age. There are studies that show that it could take a year or longer to get pregnant after using the pill for a lengthy time. Also, there are women who become pregnant in a short time.  So, I don't know if this has helped but you will just have to see what happens for yourself. If you have any further questions or just want to talk more, just email me at DWooley97@yahoo.com
Hope to hear from you soon.
