Question -
Can the transition of one Birth Control Pill to another (after a cycle) alter the effects?
thanks

Answer -
Dear Luma,

Am I correct in assuming you mean the side-effects of taking the pills?

If so, the answer is yes. If you change from one pill to another type of pill it generally can take your body up to 3 months to adjust to the different hormones.

If you have any particular concerns then perhaps you should consult a doctor. If you are experiencing rather negative side effects you should try to keep taking the pills until your doctor says otherwise. However if you really cannot stand it then just be aware that you will not be covered for birth control.

Hope this helps,

Allison

Thank you Allison,
I meant more in terms of Birth Control.  Should I have a backup during the transition?  You see, the reason why I am changing my pill is because I've had spotting in between periods since the birth of my son one year ago.  I have an ultrasound sceduled this week but in the meantime my doc switched my pill to see if it will help.  A friend of mine told me I can get pregnant during transition.  Now I am worried.  What do you think?
THANKS!

Answer
Dear Luma,

Generally if you take the pills continuously as prescribed there should be no problem with contraception. However it is generally recommended to use a back up method for the first 7 days of the new pills just in case.

It has been a few days and you say you are having an ultrasound so I guess this question is no longer relevant.

It is only a very very very small chance, so dont be too worried.

This information is just for you to use next time.

Hope this helped,

Allison
