Question Dear Wendy,
I first want to say how delighted I am to have come across your website.
I would to own and operate a food delivery service out of my home. There are no restaurants in my area & most definitely no food to be delivered. Can you please give me some insight on my future plans.
Thank you,
Respectfully,
Mel
Answer Hi Mel,
There are virtually no places where it is LEGAL to cook and deliver food from a home kitchen. Health Departments simply do not allow that (which is a GOOD thing for the consuming public who have no idea the condition of someone's home kitchen or the cleanliness of it). And no insurance company is going to insure such, and anyone would be a fool to cook food for others without liability insurance. Some folks do find/invest in a health dept. licensed kitchen, but the overhead for that can be too costly most times, which is why, as Personal Chefs, we go into our clients' homes and cook there.
My recommendations...
1. Read back through some of the previous answers of mine to others with similar questions as yours.
2. Research the Personal Chef industry and INVEST in joining one. Because I co-founded (but since sold) the Personal Chefs Network, I can attest the the credibility of the company and comprehensiveness of the educational materials because I wrote much of them. The networking done there by members is worth well more than the monies to join and are the funnest bunch of foodies you'll ever associate with. I now have a huge network of foodie friends all over the country/world from my time at PCN and meet them when I travel to their cities. If you think it is "too expensive" to invest that small amount to learn from experts who have paved the way, then you are not ready to become a legit personal chef. No matter what industry we are a part of, I firmly believe that we must be active participants... there is no need to reinvent the wheel on some things, and the monies you will SAVE (and I guarantee you will) by joining PCN will more than pay for start up costs to join. I get absolutely ZERO monies for anyone I send their way so this is not a "commissioned sales pitch" of any sort. I just know it is a quality organization with the BEST of the best in the industry in terms of members and once you join and are "inside" all the great forums, you'll realize you are "home." Go there and for starters, sign up for the free guest forum and read and read old posts there and ask your own questions as well. You will learn LOTS and find questions/answers you'd never thought to ask. And tell them I sent ya! Sharon is the owner and my former bizz partner, so tell her I recommended you come there.
