Expertise
Ask me about things to do and places to go to alleviate loneliness and low self-esteem. I can help you to meet people who share your interests.

Experience
I had very low self-esteem in high school. I overcame it, and have since helped many of my friends with similar issues.

Question
I have been living in a new city for about three years... it is great.. but my family and my close base of friends are far away... also one of my best friends is my ex-boyfriend... he just started dating someone.. and i am happy for him..but now i do feel uncomfortable about turning to him when i am down... i feel like i would be getting in the way...he has always said i could call him at anytime...  but just dont think i should for a while... is this a good idea... and if it is.. what do i do.. when i am feeling down.. and i don't have anyone close to turn to.   the other issue here is that he has only been seing this woman for three weeks and already he feels she is the one... i am happy for him.. and when we broke up.. we both knew it was for the best... but there is still a part of me  feeling down on myself ... wondering what was wrong with me that he couldn't see me as the one... how do i deal with both issues...

Answer
Hi Sudha,

I know it can be difficult with no one around to talk to, why not try to find ways to meet new people, try getting involved in different groups/organizations in your area or even sites like meetup.com help you find groups that share similar interests. I think it is nice of you to give your ex time but if you really feel you need to talk to him and he has been open to the idea then it won't hurt as long as your not looking to hinder his current relationship.
