Copyright & Patents/idea protection

Question
I have an idea for a product which I am wanting to pitch to some manufacturers. If I pitch it to them and they choose not to produce it or be involved how do I protect myself from them taking my idea and developing it.

Answer
A confidentiality agreement is of some value. However, over the long haul, a patent.

"Patent It Yourself" by David Pressman, published by Nolo Press, Berkely, California is available from most free public libraries and has a considerable amount of free info, as does my website

Hope that helps. Best wishes on your project.
