Are coke and/or pepsi patented products?

Answer
No. Coke, and probably Pepsi, rely on trade secrecy to keep their formulations from the puplic.
There is a book I read some 40 years ago or so, "The Cola Wars" that was a history of the rivalry between those two companies. They started out as an alternative to alcohol, just after our Civil War ended, which was the worst war for America, ever. Something like 10% of the population suffered some sort of casulty, I've heard. More deaths than all our other wars put together until near the end of our Viet Nam involvement.
