Copyright & Patents/pattening invention

Question
How do I patten an invention or idea without getting scamed?
And whats the first step?

Answer
Good question.
Buy, borrow (from most any library), or steal, as copy of "Patent It Yourself by David Pressman, published by Nolo Press of Berkely, California.
Edward R. Hamilton, Bookseller has surplus ones for something like $8. New ones run about $40.

Secondly, deal only, directly with Registered Patent Agents or Patent Attorneys. By registered I mean registered with the U.S. Patent And Trade Mark Office, i.e. USPTO.
The web site is uspto.gov.  They have a list of registered Agents and Attorneys.

Do not deal with companies with generic names, i.e. Davison, Absolutely New, Invent Tech, Invention Submission Corp., to name a few. More names (Their name is "Legion" to quote Scripture) can be found on the Ronald J. Riley website, a link to which is on my Inventors Resources Page on my web site: www.evansville.net/biz/patagent

Don't trust the ads on this site, even on my profile page. I have objected to the scammers advertisements on  this site, but Allexperts blames Google.

I also have a book review page of helpful texts available, mostly, through your local free public library.

As a creative inventor, you probably are dyslexic, which makes for difficulty reading, but do the best you can with Mr. Pressman's book to understand what is involved in going for a patent.

I do hope that helps.  Best wishes and highest regards on you project.
