Question
my idea has to be with the iphone, do i have to ask for permission in order to use a thing that already exists? my patent could exclude apple to used its iphone to other task? more or less whats the time that takes in order to have the patent, thank you very much

regards

Answer
While your question depends on some specifics, in general:
1. You do not need to ask permission to use something already out there. Combining it with the iphone may or may not be patentable, it depends if it is creative & novel (i.e. it is not obvious, which is a complicated matter.

2. My guess, due to an overload of applications pending in that field which is relatively crowded these days, is approx. 5 years, more or less, for the whole process, if  you are lucky.

I hope that helps.

Best wishes on  your project.

Stay away from the invention promotors, especially the ones that advertise on TV.
