Question
Hello George,

if i am meeting with a consultant, or even a friend how can give me advice about my invention, and i describe to him my invention, is there anything i can do to protect myself against him stealing the invention?

Answer
A confidentiality agreement is the way to go.

I believe "Patent It Yourself" by David Pressman has at least one sample form, and gives permission to reproduce and use. His text is in most public libraries.

I hope that helps. I use one my lawyer drew up for me, here in Evansville. Best bet is to have your favorite attorney draw one up for you, as he can enforce it.

As a Patent Agent, I don't get into Tort matters as that requires a member of the state Bar. I practice patent law on the Federal level, as I am not an attorney. The primary requirement for practicing patent law before the USPTO is the engineering training and passing their eight hour exam on the rules of the patent office.

Best wishes.
