About Neal Ziring
Expertise
Experienced user of versions 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, and X3 mostly for web page graphics, some photo retouching, some technical document illustration. Right now I only have versions 12 and X3 available to me, so I'll be best at answering questions about those.

Corel Photo Paint - Corel Draw 12 no longer works on my PC

Expert: Neal Ziring - 10/20/2008

Question
Corel sent me an update in regards to X3 and as soon as i opened this Corel Draw 12 no longer works. Was able to use it the day before and then after this update it would no longer open. Have uninstalled and reinstalled - my computer guy seems to think that it is a windows update problem and said that I would have to reinstalled XP - don't really want to do this as I would have to reinstall all other software and hardware which runs off my computer. Also cannot load photoshop and illustrator CS3 on this computer but can load on others on the network. Can you help please?

Answer
Kath,

It sounds like the X3 update you installed
hosed up something on your Windows XP installation.
I agree with your computer guy that one way to fix
it would be to re-install XP, but that is a lot of
hassle.  You should try some other things before that,
one of them might work.

First, try looking for an XP System Restore Point
that pre-dates the problem.  To check, try going
to Start>Help and Support>Undo changes to your computer
and pick "Restore my computer to an earlier time" and
then hit Next> and follow the instructions.

If that doesn't work, try uninstalling the update.
It should appear in the Add/Remove Program control panel,
especially if you click "show updates".  If you can remove
both CorelDraw 12 and that weird Corel X3 update, that
may help.

Other than that, I don't know what else to tell you.
Windows XP is susceptible to many kinds of problems,
especially with 3rd Party software.

Good luck...
