About Neal Ziring
Expertise
Experienced user of versions 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, and X3 mostly for web page graphics, some photo retouching, some technical document illustration. Right now I only have versions 12 and X3 available to me, so I'll be best at answering questions about those.

Corel Photo Paint - Paint tool trouble

Expert: Neal Ziring - 5/27/2008

Question
My Paint Tool and Clone Tool are not working. I choose any of the available kinds of points but they don't work. Any reason for this? My soft is the Corel Photo Paint X3.

Answer
Douglas,

There are a couple of situations that could cause this.
I can't tell which one might apply, so check all of them.

1. Painting and Cloning only apply within the current mask.
If you have a mask set, try painting within the mask, or
changing the mask to the entire image.  Similarly, if you
are working with objects, the painting or cloning will
apply only in the object.  Try selecting the background
  object.

2. The paint brush or clone brush might have a size of 0
or an opacity of 0.  In that case, the tool will be working
but there will be no visible effect.  Check the tool
  settings in the toolbar.

3. The image could be open read-only.  Close it and re-open
  it.

4. It is also possible that PhotoPaint has just gotten confused.
I've observed this with version 11, but never with version X3.
  Try closing and restarting PhotoPaint.

That's all I can think of right now.  Good luck...
