AboutNeal Ziring Expertise Experienced user of versions 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, and X3 mostly for
web page graphics, some photo retouching, some technical document
illustration. Right now I only have versions 12 and X3 available to me,
so I'll be best at answering questions about those.
Question I've been using Corel Photopaint 9 for years, but recently I've been having problems applying changes to objects, particularly in the "merge" and "opacity" areas. I'd change the settings to how I wanted in the properties menu and click "okay" but the image just returns to how it was before. Am I missing something? Please help, and thanks!
Answer Angela,
I don't know exactly why your object transparency and merging
might suddenly fail. There are several things that could cause
the behavior you've described. I'll list some, and you can
see whether they apply to you. I can't try these exactly,
because I don't have anything as old as PhotoPaint 9 installed
anymore.
1. Object stacking -
If you have several copies of an object in the image, then
an upper copy might be obscuring or covering a lower one. If
you made the changes to the lower one, you wouldn't see the
changes occur. Check that you are editing the topmost object
in the stack, and that the object you're editing is visible.
2. 8-bit image -
If your Image is an 8-bit paletted image, transparency might
not work correctly. Convert the image to 24-bit RGB mode.
3. Locked transparency -
some versions of PhotoPaint have a button to "lock" the
transparency of an object. Check that you don't have
locking turned on for the object.
4. Blend mapper -
In later versions of PhotoPaint, there are blend mapping
charts on the Properties dialog for an object. I don't
know if PhotoPaint 9 has those. Anyway, it is possible to
screw those up so that the object blending doesn't work
right (though I don't see how they would let the object
stay looking the same). Anyway, check that the active object
and composite underlying blend maps are normal (square).
That all I can think of right now. If none of those things help,
try restarting PhotoPaint.
