Corel Photo Paint/Version of Photo Paint
Expert: Neal Ziring - 6/29/2005
QuestionCan Version 12 be obtained without buying Corel
Draw Graphics Suite 12?
I have been using Version 7 for years and would
love to upgrade but sure don't need Corel Draw.
AnswerBob,
Unfortunately, no, Corel only sells PhotoPaint 12
as part of the CorelDraw suite. (They sell
CorelDraw by itself sometimes, but not Paint!
I don't know why.)
Anyhow, if you liked Corel PhotoPaint 7, then I
think the correct upgrade path for you would be
to go to Corel PaintShop Pro 9. It is a very
capable image editing program, far more capable
than PP7 (although not quite as sophisticated
as PP12). It is also quite a bit cheaper: only
$59 for the upgrade edition.
You can learn about PaintShop Pro 9 here:
http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=Corel3/Products/Display&pfid=104...
However, you might want to try the free open-source
program "The Gimp" first. Version 2.2 is out, and is
an impressively good image editing program for experienced
users. It is also free, so you might want to give it a
try before dropping $59 for PaintShop Pro or $179 for full
CorelDraw suite. You can download the Gimp 2.2 for Windows
from here:
http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/stable.html
Hope this helps...
