Corel Photo Paint/acquire from webcam
Expert: Neal Ziring - 11/2/2005
QuestionI have Photo-Paint 8. I used to be able to acquire images from my webcam inside Photo-Paint. Since re-installing the webcam, I can't anymore. It shows the cam on "select source" but nothing happens on clicking it.
AnswerGerald,
This is a tough question, because it probably has
more to do with Windows than Corel Photo-Paint.
First, you should check whether the webcam works
from any other programs. You've probably checked this
already, but if not then do it. If the webcam doesn't
work from any other programs, then you need to reinstall
the camera's drivers.
Second, if the webcam still shows up on PhotoPaint's
menu, it probably think the webcam is still there.
However, if you reinstalled it, PhotoPaint may still
be invoking it via some OLD pathway. That seems
unlikely, but possible. As I recall, PhotoPaint 8 had
its own list of supported cameras and scanners, but
could also use TWAIN-compliant cameras. It has been a
long time since I used PhotoPaint 8, but you might try
looking on the Corel installation CDs for a specific
driver for your webcam and reinstalling that.
Otherwise, I'd say your only options are to reinstall
PhotoPaint or upgrade to a newer version of Corel Graphics
Suite. If I were you I'd do the upgrade, because 9 and
11 have a lot of improvements over 8. (You can find
upgrade editions of 11 quite cheap on some web auction
sites.)
Sorry I couldn't help more.
