Corel Photo Paint/Clone tool & paint tool not working

David wrote at 2008-09-28 23:37:12
Thanks to nz's excellent suggestion. My Corel PhotoPaint 12 had had this problem for quite some time. The Paint Tool simply would not work, and the drop down dialog for custom brushes never had anything to select from.

Turns out, my issue goes way back, to right after installing my Corel Draw Suite, I created and have been using a custom user WORKSPACE!!!  Turns out too, that my brushes file Brushes (dot) ini was the culprit. It wasn't necessarily corrupt, it just didn't have all the correct information in it.  I simply copied the Brushes (dot) ini file from the original default workspace into my custom workspace folder and all is right with the world now.

Hope this helps someone else.

In order to use the clone you need to be able to set the brush type to normal. I was unable to change from custom clone. If you are having the same problem, try going to window - dockers - brush settings - click the box/arrow next to stroke style and reset all.

ctrl + F8 works too! (shortcut)

In order to use the clone tool you need to be able to set the brush type to normal! I was unable to change from Custom Clone. If you are having the same problem, try this in PhotoPaint: go to Window - Dockers - Brush settings, then click the box/arrow next to Stroke style and Reset all. Amazingly, it works right away!! And now you can change the settings to your like.

I don't know how the problem started with my clone tool not functioning. I use it all the time and suddenly today it wasn't working. I must have clicked something wrong and not realized it. I was going crazy trying to figure out how to fix it. Your solution worked perfectly! Thank you so much!

Experienced the same problem as Deborah and David in X3. To reset the brushes I found I needed to be in the paint or clone mode to reset each one separately. Thanks TrophyMaster, I was on the verge of a full reinstall.

I find if you hold down F8 when opening the programme and then clicking YES to the option to reset to default factory settings the problem is solved.
