Question
When I try to open an adobe illustrator 10 file in corel photopaint 8 it gives me a window that says to try opening the file using a filter. Where can I find the filter for this? Or is there another way to open an AI 10 file in PhotoPaint 8?

Answer
Leign Ann,

I'm not sure that Corel 8 (basically from 1999-2000)
is going to be able to open a .AI file from Illustrator 10
(basically 2002).  My copy of PhotoPaint 9 can open .AI
files from Illustrator 7, but I've never tried anything
newer.

Basically, you're going to have to go back to
Illustrator and save the file under a different format
that PhotoPaint can read.  There are two basic approaches
you can try:

   1. Use Illustrator to export the artwork into an image
format, probably TIFF, at fairly high resolution,
probably 300 dpi.  Then open the TIFF file in
      PhotoPaint.

   2. Use Illustrator to save the artwork in encapsulated
Postscript (EPS) format.  Then open the EPS file
in PhotoPaint at a fairly high resolution, probably
      300 dpi.

Either approach should work, I would try them both and see
which one looks better.

Good luck...
