Question
QUESTION: Can you tell me how I can delete parts of text, (a single letter of the alphabet for example) in Corel Draw?

ANSWER: Hi Anu

Select the text tool from your toolbox and then click near the text you want to delete. A vertical bar called a cursor will appear in your text (if it does not, your text may be part of a group. see CorelDraw Help for assistance on un-grouping objects).

If necessary you can move left, right, up or down with the arrow keys.
To delete one letter to the right press the Del key.
To delete one letter to the left press the Backspace (back arrow, above the Enter key).

This seems like a very easy question, I hope my answer helps you.

QUESTION: I meant a part of a single letter..

Answer
Ah, now I understand!

This is easy in CorelDraw once you know how. First you must convert the text to curves (Arrange.Convert to Curves or Ctrl+Q). Once you do this, you cannot edit the text any more with the text tool, because this process turns the text into a series of shapes.

You can then use the Shape tool to move the nodes around or add and delete nodes to alter the shapes.

Note that if you do this process on a whole word, the word itself is still treated as one object and if you change the colour of one letter, the whole word will change colour. If you want to paint letters in a word different colours you need to Arrange.Break Apart or Ctrl+K. If you do this, the letters with enclosed parts (such as O and e) will lose their holes. To rectify that, select the whole letter with a marquee and then Arrange.Combine or Ctrl+L. Your hole should reappear!

Expertise

My main area of continuous expertise with CorelDraw involves setting press advertisements and I have rarely used it to produce complex drawings. However as director of a small company I have amassed a good deal of background knowledge of computers, various printers and networks over the years. When it comes to problem-solving, I have a long history of having nobody to ask but myself and, lately, the internet!
