CorelDraw/Importing eps files locking up CorelDraw 7.0

Question
I have used CorelDraw 7.0 on my laptop with no problems importing eps files for over 2 years.  Recently, about a month ago, importing OR opening eps files locks up my CorelDraw program and requires me to end program.  I am doing nothing different in my method of importing than I used to, and the images are from various locations and include images that I exported to eps files from the program itself.  I tried removing and reinstalling the program but it still has the problem.  Help!

Answer
Since removing and replacing your software hasn't helped, this might somehow be an OS problem rather than CorelDraw. In particular I am thinking that something else changed on your slaptop when the trouble started.

I'm not paranoid about malware but for peace of mind you can run the MSRT by typing MRT at a command prompt and if you're quick you can do a free Microsoft Onecare scan at www.tinyurl.com/26p2yt.

Assuming your system is clean I might be tempted to try a restore point from a couple of months ago.

Can you temporarily install your CorelDraw onto a different PC to try the procedure there? This should test whether the .EPS files are usable or not.

After all this my final suggestion is to upgrade your version to X4. It actually seems to use less memory than version 8 when idle, and it also has an excellent .PDF output stage, which is dreadful in your V7. I've seen copies well below retail price on Ebay recently!

My main area of continuous expertise with CorelDraw involves setting press advertisements and I have rarely used it to produce complex drawings. However as director of a small company I have amassed a good deal of background knowledge of computers, various printers and networks over the years. When it comes to problem-solving, I have a long history of having nobody to ask but myself and, lately, the internet!
