CorelDraw/Problem with Service Bureau
Expert: Ran - 4/11/2009
QuestionThe problem i face is that whenever i opt for prepare for service bureau i encounter the error "Out of memory" and if i continue with that the coreldraw becomes unstable and if i opt out of that the application works ok. My system is Dell optiplex, AMD x2 5000+ with 2gb 800mhz memory installed.
One thing more, i've seen your reply to a similar problem and i tried those things but i didn't face any problem in doing that operations. That means it my system is not failing either on PDF creation or saving the CDR file.
Even if i write a simple text (small file size without any graphic at all)and opt for prepare for service bureau, i face the same problem. I converted the text to curve and again opted for service bureau. This time it worked. This suggest that the problem may be in creating the font list and copying the fonts from the Windows fonts folder.
PLZ HELP
AnswerYou are correct to say this sounds similar to another person's problem and I'm sorry to say I have no more suggestions. Perhaps there is something unreliable in the program code.
However, I think that the Service Bureau option is outdated nowadays. CorelDraw has had it on the menu for a long time but the printing industry has moved on a lot now. It is pretty much unthinkable to expect your printer to be happy about installing other people's dodgy font files on their mission-critical workstations!
All you should need to give your Printer is a good .PDF, making sure all of the fonts are embedded (check this in Adobe Reader with Ctrl+D and click the Fonts tab. Every font should say "Embedded subset" alongside). Some fonts will refuse to embed due to licensing restrictions. If you have any of those in your list, either use a different font or convert them to curves before making your .PDF again.
If my printing firm asked for font files and couldn't work from a PDF, I would use another printer.
