Question
Hi I'm using CorelDraw 12 for the first time, to design a CD label. I have the label designed but need to erase everything outside of the outer circle of the CD. I.e. I have extraneous graphics outside of the disc area.  Thanks for any help.

Answer
Hi Fred

I expect you have solved this one by now because you asked your question after I had left work on Friday evening, UK time.

If you want to erase everything outside a circle you can fiddle around with the Trim tool for ages to achieve this. This method is fiddly unless your drawing is simple.

However, the way I solve this problem for printing CDs is to draw a page-sized rectangle over the CD circle and then Combine (Arrange menu/Combine) it with your circle. This has the effect of cutting a hole in the rectangle. Then colour the rectangle white. This will obscure the area outside the circle and therefore your problem is solved! Make sure your circle is in the right place because it's slightly tricky to reposition it afterwards (use the Shape tool, F10).

My main area of continuous expertise with CorelDraw involves setting press advertisements and I have rarely used it to produce complex drawings. However as director of a small company I have amassed a good deal of background knowledge of computers, various printers and networks over the years. When it comes to problem-solving, I have a long history of having nobody to ask but myself and, lately, the internet!
