CorelDraw/Coreldraw12 print to plotter

Question
Just started trying to convert a scanned image from Officejet Pro 8500 to CorelDraw 12 to produce vector image to be printed/cut on a Roland G-24X.  Any advice, does not want to pull image from Corel into CutStudio (plotter software).  Could it be file type? What should I use?

Answer
Your plotter will need a vector file so you will probably need to somehow convert your scan into line art (vectors).

CorelDraw's Trace command will make a good fist of doing this for you very quickly, although there are a million settings for you to fiddle with to get the output you desire.

In X4 the Trace commands are on the Bitmap menu, in previous versions CorelTrace was a separate program, I don't know where it is in V12 but when you find it, that's what you need!

Expertise

My main area of continuous expertise with CorelDraw involves setting press advertisements and I have rarely used it to produce complex drawings. However as director of a small company I have amassed a good deal of background knowledge of computers, various printers and networks over the years. When it comes to problem-solving, I have a long history of having nobody to ask but myself and, lately, the internet!

My first printer was a Star LC10 Colour and I once paid £1745 for an HP Laserjet III.
