CorelDraw/Data Linking

Question
QUESTION: I am currently producing quotes with images in Corel Draw X3, I want to be able to have a set of prices in an xcel sheet and link the data into the Corel file. When I try to insert a linked spreadsheet (even saved as .xls not xlsx) it appears as a black box.

Can you help?

ANSWER: Hi Alex

I didn't know you could insert a *linked* spreadsheet, if you tell me how you're attempting this I'll investigate further in my X4.

Cheers

QUESTION: Edit/Insert New Object, click "from file" and browse to xls file, check the "linked" box and hit OK. It does this black box thing if you link or embed. I want to have data on an external xls sheet displayed on Corel page. Idea is so I can change the linked data without having to update the prices in my quotes.

Hi again

I'm sorry to say it works perfectly well on my X4 system, not a black box in sight.

I'd suggest that either:
• something hasn't installed properly on your system (so remove the program, reboot, then reinstall) or
• Corel decided to release the program before they got this bit working properly (so maybe it's time to upgrade)

I've had some hard times in the past with import/export problems in version 8, really it was a shambles.

Can you import the spreadsheet *unlinked*, with File/Import?
