Question
I have read an old (2006) post, but was hoping for more recent information.  I am buying artwork from a designer who uses CorelDRAW X3.  We only have Adobe Illustrator CS4.  The .ai file he sent does not open correctly.  What can we do to see the files on AI CS4?  Thank you!

Answer
Hi Margo

There are numerous options in X3 when saving as AI. I can't tell you which settings will work but I would use a trial-and-error process until I found a solution.

You could also try an alternative format such as .pdf or .svg, there are plenty to choose from.

Of course you could also treat yourself to a decent program, for example CorelDraw X4!

Good luck and I hope this helps a little.

My main area of continuous expertise with CorelDraw involves setting press advertisements and I have rarely used it to produce complex drawings. However as director of a small company I have amassed a good deal of background knowledge of computers, various printers and networks over the years. When it comes to problem-solving, I have a long history of having nobody to ask but myself and, lately, the internet!
