About Ran
Expertise
My main area of continuous expertise with CorelDraw involves setting press advertisements and I have rarely used it to produce complex drawings. However as director of a small company I have amassed a good deal of background knowledge of computers, various printers and networks over the years. When it comes to problem-solving, I have a long history of having nobody to ask but myself and, lately, the internet!

Experience
About 20 years' experience in daily use, from version 1

Education/Credentials
University educated and over 2 decades of hands-on experience

My first printer was a Star LC10 Colour and I once paid £1745 for an HP Laserjet III.

We are on Coreldraw version 12. I am working on a corel file, which is giving particular error when trying to save the same. Given below is the error that occurs only after 2-3 hours of working on it.

a. Not enough storage to complete this operation (we have more than 30Gb available in the disk of the user)

b. C:\Documents.....  .cdr is already open elsewhere   Please close it before you save to this name or any other name. Since I'm unable to attch I'm writing the same here.

Please help us

Regards
Sutanu Ganguly

ANSWER: Occasionally a file will become damaged and refuse to save properly.

1. Try to save the file with a different name using File/Save As.

2. If the above does not work, copy the contents into a new file as follows:
Select the entire drawing with Ctrl+A. Then Ctrl+C to copy to the clipboard. Then File/New to open a new drawing. Then Ctrl+V to paste.

Please let us know how you get on.

PS In your version 12, the Select All command may not be Ctrl+A. If in doubt, use the Select All command on the Edit menu.

QUESTION: Our Feedback:
1. Does not save. We get the same message that we received in Option a given by me.

2. After we give Ctrl+V, it says failed to create a new document...

Please help

Thanks

Answer
The plot thickens! I do not know whether you find these problems with only one particular file or all files.

I have answered problems before where the user was loading many photographs onto the CorelDraw page, quickly leading to absolutely massive file sizes. I feel sure CorelDraw was not designed for this kind of child-like use and although in theory it should be able to cope, in practice it can lead to all sorts of problems. If you are loading multiple large photos into CorelDraw it is desirable to scale each image to the size you want and then immediately Resample it. That way, the unneeded detail will be discarded and file size will be massively reduced.

If you are working with modest drawings and small file sizes I can only think that something has gone wrong with your installation, so I would uninstall and reinstall with a reboot and maybe a defrag in between.

With regard to your available hard disc space. I think CorelDraw will probably need twice the file size of available space in order to work, because it will maintain a temporary file as well as the actual file.
